If you are itching to perform some search engine optimization on your website or your company’s website, you probably already know that link building is a vital component to effective SEO and gaining high search engine rankings. Link building is simply the practice of acquiring links from different websites of relevant or non-relevant content. Every search engine, especially Google require either a large amount of non-relevant backlinks or smaller amounts of relevant backlinks for greater search engine rankings. This makes searching and finding backlinks to your website one of the most significant factors in search engine optimization. If you didn’t know already, higher search engine rankings will lead to more targeted search engine traffic.
There are two types of SEO that need to be performed when building a campaign. There are on page factors and off page factors. Links pointing from another site to your site is one of the greatest controlling off page SEO factor in the game. One thing about link building that most people realize is that, link building takes a lot of time and effort and is an ongoing process. It is often difficult for website owners to carry on a productive link building campaign throughout the life of their website.
Over the years, there have been many different techniques designed for ways to get links and build your search engine rankings. Most techniques are actually good and create an advantage for your website. Others are terrible and corrupt and can destroy the reputation and search engine rankings for a company.
Sadly there are link building methods that are considered “black hat”. Black hat seo techniques are looked down upon in the industry. Masking is one of the more common techniques that show the search engine crawlers different content than that shows to actual visitors of the website. It also comprises of secret material that visitors cannot see. This is the number one reason why search engines do not give more authority to those sites that simply have a lot of links. They also look at the quality of links and award more value to those types of links.
There are many different ways to gain backlinks to your website that are not considered black hat. These are the types of links that you will want to get and focus your campaign around.
- Article writing and marketing
- Directory submissions
- Blog commenting
- Link trades
Focus on these and watch your search engine rankings begin to soar!
Social Bookmarking Is An Easy Way To Increase Profits, Traffic, And Links

A bookmark is an item that you place into a paper book to mark the place where you stopped reading. This bookmark allows you to easily return to the exact spot you were before, without having to memorize the page number.
An online bookmark serves the same purpose. When you find an internet site you want to mark for later viewing, or that you’ll want to find again, you tell your browser to set a bookmark. These are also called favorites. This bookmark allows you to return exactly to the same site again and again, without ever having to memorize the link.
What Is Social Bookmarking
You’ve been using social bookmarking, even if you didn’t know it! When you forward a funny e-mail joke or picture to a friend, that’s a form of social bookmarking. You are socially sharing a bookmark to a website with a friend. That gives your friends exposure to websites they might never find on their own. They do the same for you when they send these informal social bookmarks to you.
Social Bookmarking Sites
Social bookmarking sites began as a way for web surfers to upload and save their personal browser bookmarks online. That way, web visitors are not limited to their own computers. By saving their personal social bookmarks online, they can access them from any computer.
The social aspect of social bookmarking is that everyone else saving their personal social bookmarks to these online sites can see and use everyone else’s bookmarks! The social bookmarking site essentially becomes a giant collection of bookmarks contributed by many users.
Social Bookmarking Tags
Social bookmarking sites are built and organized by humans. However, there needs to be some kind of organization. Humans provide that too. Each social bookmark is submitted with one or more tags. A tag is nothing more than a keyword that describes the site being submitted.
If you visit a social bookmarking website looking for information on cars, you might search for the words “car,” “cars,” or “automobiles.” The bookmarks with those tags will be shown in the search results. If you are looking for a specific type of car such as a Ferrari, bookmarks tagged with the word “Ferrari” will be shown. It’s that easy!
Making Money With Social Bookmarking
If you have a website that sells a product or service, why not submit that site to the major social bookmarking sites? When you submit your internet marketing site to social bookmarking sites, along with appropriate bookmarking tags, you are tapping into a huge, extremely targeted group of people looking for information – your information!

The Not So Ancient Art Of Link Building

Greetings to all of you website owners and webmasters! This publication was created to demystify all the forums, blogs, and stories you have heard about link building. I for one am sick of seeing misinformation floating around. I will go over tactics and useful tools to boost your natural rankings for all major search engines and try to keep it interesting.
Pesky spiders keeping your site suppressed? Are your pages being indexed? For many people this goes unnoticed and is a very important factor when ranking. We would all love to think that the search engines have our best interests covered but the sad fact is with millions of sites being created each year the search engines have a hard time figuring out what is junk and what is real. A good sign that a search engine likes your site is by looking at the number of pages indexed within the search engine. If you go into Google, Yahoo, or MSN and type [site:www.mydomain.com] without the brackets, you will see the total number of pages the search engine has indexed. This means those pages have a chance to rank. We will go into ranking a little later in this document.
It seems that many people forget or just don’t know what it takes to properly optimize a page. The real factors of on-page optimization in order of importance are:
Title Tag – Make sure your title tag is descriptive and no longer than 65 characters
Keyword Tag – Use only tags (keywords) that appear in your pages content
Description Tag – Your description should be DESCRIPTIVE not keyword stuffed!
H1, H2, H3 – Use headline tags to improve ranking by placing keywords in them.
Page Content – Each page should have 200 – 700 words of compelling content
Try to focus on 1 – 4 keywords per page as a maximum. This will make your pages more important for those keywords. As a rule of thumb I always make pages geared towards 2 keywords. This not only keeps your pages consistent but the search engines generally have an easier time indexing those pages. Remember though, your title is the most important tool you can use to tell search engines what your pages are about. So keep them descriptive and try having your main keyword(s) at the front. Oddly enough we have seen peoples ranking increase by 10 positions just by changing their titles!
Let’s face it, most of us are trying to make a quick buck on the Internet and create a store or affiliate site with as little effort as possible. I have seen this happen all too often and generally it is human nature to cut corners. There is the time consuming process of creating content and no one likes to do it. Unfortunately it is important as a branding tool and a search engine tool. With content you can improve your success dramatically. The flip side of that is not having content or worse, stealing or spinning content from someone else’s site. This is a big no no for copyright reasons as well as duplicate content issues. You can always see if your site is in check by visiting www.copyscape.com and see if you are copying someone or if some is copying you! Devote some time to create content for all of your pages, believe me you will have a much easier time getting noticed on the web.
Linking is becoming trickier everyday. As we saw with the Jagger 1,2,3 update with Google reciprocal linking is not what it used to be and many websites fell off the face of the planet. As the Internet grows search engines will need to get smarter to counteract cheating. And yes as much as we hate to admit it link building is some ways is cheating. There are PLENTY of companies out there still selling reciprocal links to unwary buyers who just don’t know any better. Or even worse we see these machine generated sites that web design companies make to pass off as SEO. While most of us know better than to accept a $99.95 deal some are left stranded in an abyss of paying every last dollar on the hope that one day their website will rank. Wake up people! If it was that easy to rank on the Internet everyone would be #1 and you know that just isn’t true. So to stop the insanity please avoid the following:
Reciprocal links – These links are all but completely devalued in Google and other search engines are moving towards not counting them. Reciprocate between complimenting websites like organizations or charities.
Site-wide linking – Having your link on the bottom of every page on someone’s site is a bad idea. You know it wouldn’t seem natural for someone to do that for you so stay away. Having 5,000 links coming from one IP address is never a good thing!
Buying high PR – While this used to work in the past Google has caught on to this little trick. If you buy links with high PR make sure they are only a couple numbers above you and they come from relevant sites. A good thing to check is the number of pages indexed for the host site and make sure they don’t stuff your link in an advertisement section. Google is catching on to that as well.
Daisy chaining – So you think you have it all figured out, you will create 500 sites with content and link them all back to your main site that sells luggage… Well my friend unless you are planning on hosting those domains on separate class C IP addresses then you are in for a rude awakening. This was the “hip” thing to do about a year ago and will get you banned in Google faster than a search for Brittney Spears.
Non-relevant links – It’s called LSI or Latent Semantic Indexing. Still confused? It means that Google can tell that words are related. So if you buy links on sites/pages that have nothing to do with yours you will get caught and your rankings will fall down the hole. Best practice is to only have links coming from like or similar category sites/pages.
By avoiding these pitfalls your site will be healthy and stay out of Google’s penalty box or the sandbox as many people call it.
Everyone always points out that their competition is doing better than them. Well of course they are; they are doing something right. Whether that is proper link building or having optimized pages they have succeeded where you have not. Well no longer my friend! Let’s give you the information you need to get the right links built and traffic flowing like water. You are asking yourself what works? Well highly relevant one way links coming from trusted sites that have been around for a couple years or more. Of course your next thought is how the hell am I supposed to get links from these sites? There are a couple techniques that work well.
Contacting the webmaster – This is an old method that works but is time consuming. We generally leave this for weekend work or when you have an intern that has nothing to do. The best practice is to send an email to the webmaster and see if they sell links on a yearly basis. Or even better tell them you would be willing to write some content in exchange for a link.
Link Baiting – No we aren’t talking about going out on a boat for a couple hours. We are talking about creating something that people want. Think about what your clientele would like to have as a freebie. If you sell dog products create a PDF that talks about proper shampooing techniques. The list is truly endless with this one. You’ll find that if people see your site as a resource they will link to you 80% of the time.
One Way links – While one way links are the best there are things you need to make sure of. This would include buying links from sites/pages with Page Rank. Let’s face it, if there isn’t any Page Rank you are buying junk. Another thing to watch out for is relevancy. Make sure the page your link appears on is semi-relevant to your linked page. Remember search engines see websites as groupings of pages not a single entity so only page relevance is important. Directory links are also ok as long as the page your link appears on is relevant.
Articles – Personally I love articles. Not only are you creating content for your site you are creating a piece of compelling content for other sites. This can drive traffic and create new links for your website. Best of all the pages are completely relevant as you were the one that created the content. There is nothing bad to say about articles. They work and they work well!
Press Releases – If you could inject an article with steroids this would be the final product. Press releases are the most sought-after gem in an SEO’s arsenal. With press releases you get branding, recognition, press, and high powered links. We are talking placement on Google and Yahoo news sites! Wake up and smell the traffic because these are simply put the best thing going.
Yes, we get at least 2 calls a week requesting Page Rank. I am tired of hanging on to the myth that Page Rank is the all important power. In fact I was just watching a show a couple months ago that talked about Google and how they rank things. And of course Page Rank came up in the discussions. I like Page Rank just like the rest of you but when it comes to ranking for keywords you need to learn to let go. As you build links and as your site gains in age you will see that Page Rank will naturally come to your site. I have seen many sites with little or NO Page Rank beat out sites with higher Page Rank. This is because Google no longer places high emphasis on Page Rank. Sure it matters but it is not, I repeat NOT the thing that controls your keyword ranking.
As some of you know link age and site age are playing a more important role in today’s results. I have seen sites that are 10 years old with 100 links outrank sites that are 2 years old with 2,000 links for the same term. Search engines are looking for websites that are in it for the long haul. They don’t want to include websites that are there to ruin their index. Not to bash MSN as a search engine they are behind the times. They will rank websites that are a couple weeks old just because that site has tons of links. This throws off the index and people get crummy results or worse millions of AdSense sites. Frustrating… So when you are thinking about links and your site keep the age factor in your mind. If you are running a business and you think you will be around for years to come then register your site for 10 years, build long lasting links and for heavens sake make sure your website is optimized. I can say with certainty you will build success following those rules.
Finally I will leave you with this advice. You need to be diligent with your SEO. DO NOT build links and then stop. DO NOT release some articles and then stop. DO NOT create a few press releases and then stop. This fluctuation will cause spikes in the number of links you have for your site. And if the search engines catch on you could put your website in harms way. When we create programs for our clients we always create it with a 6 month window in mind. This helps the client more than us. Keeping the best interest of your website in mind will lead you to the success you are looking for. We all have a lot to win and lose in this Internet game and our staff wishes you the best success. Use the tools, use your mind and your website will rank!
Smart SEO Strategies for Quick Link Building

The better the number of backlinks you have the greater your website has a chance of ranking in search engines. This stands true even today but its not just links rather quality backlinks which can earn you first page placements in major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. All this will depend upon the smart SEO strategy which you adopt and besides some good links you could also earn some Google Juice which will enable your website to get some wonderful page ranks which could go a long way towards improving the marketability of your website.
Let me tell you inbound links have more importance as compared to outbound links so just follow some of my SEO tips for building links and your website could top the charts of search engines and attract visitors to your website.
Given below are some of my personal SEO strategies which I adopt for creating backlinks for my website.
Directory Submission
This is an old age SEO technique for gaining backlinks which seems to have lost some sheen in today’s scenario but you can bank upon it for gaining some harmless links. Though free links can take a few months to get accepted but believe me it will worth the wait.
Article Submission
Another good SEO technique for building links which could get cached within a short period of time as compared to directories. Just opt for some good article directories and you could end up with around three links per article. Please refrain from self promotional articles or your efforts could go down the drain. Thumb rule is to write general articles and you could end up gaining some valuable links for your website.
Blog comments
Once in a while you can post some intelligent comments on high PR blogs which can earn you some page rank juice besides links also. If implemented smartly this SEO strategy can get you some high page rank by the next update.
Social Bookmarking
Social bookmarking sites are another way to increase your link count but don’t overdo it or you might end up with their wrath. Over a period of time several spam sites have used social bookmarking websites as a dumping ground for their links but if you act within restraint you could use them as a way to give a push to your link count. Another smart SEO strategy but please don’t overdo it or you could get penalized.
Link Exchange
This SEO technique can also be used but it should not be overdone and you should only end up exchanging links with websites having a PR same as your website or higher than it as only then it will prove beneficial for your website.
Trade Links
Though search engines don’t approve of such technique and label it under black hat SEO technique but one or two links purchased from websites of repute could do well for the ranking and PR of your website.
Just follow some of my link building tips and experience a change in the positioning and traffic statistics of your website within a short period of time.
Some Common Link Building Methods for SEO

One of the primary activities in SEO that will arguably have the most impact on your sites position in the search engine rankings is link building. A web pages position in the SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) is largely dependent on the number and quality of other pages linking to the page. Here we present some of the more common link building techniques to increase your inbound links.
1. Directory submission: Link directories contain pages of categorized links. One method to obtain back links involves submitting your site to these link directories. Directories can be either paid, free or requiring a reciprocal link. The most well known directories include the Yahoo directory and dmoz.
2. Article Submission: Submission of articles to article directories is another common link building technique. At the bottom of an article you submit to an article directory is an author’s bio where you can include links to your site, as can be seen at the bottom of this article. One of the positive traits of this form of link building is that you can word your author bio as you want and therefore, have choice over the anchor text of the link.
3. Social Bookmark Submission: Social bookmark sites allow you to bookmark web pages online, and when you do a link is created to the page you bookmark. Submitting pages to social bookmark sites is another common method of link building.
4. Blog Posting.: Similar to article submission, you may be able to contact owners of blogs relating to your niche and provide them with quality content for them to post on their blog. In this content you may put a link back to your site. The key here is to provide quality content so that it is worthwhile for the owner of the blog to post your content.
5. Link Exchange: Some sites participate in link exchanges, where you link to a site in exchange for a link from their site. It is important in link exchange to exchange quality links in limited numbers. There is not a lot of value in much of the mass link exchange some sites engage in that have many pages of links devoted to their link exchanges.
6. Link Bait: This involves the writing of content, of posting of pictures or other interesting posts that other webmaster will find interesting and worth linking too. If the content is of high enough quality if may be featured on sites such as digg, potentially attracting a large number of organic links.
So here we have presented a number of the more common link building techniques. There are many others and a good way to keep up with current link building trends is to become active on one of the many popular web master forums. The key is to try different methods and attempt to get a feel for which methods are more effective through monitoring your sites position in the SERPS. You may want to establish several sites and explore different link building techniques with each site, thus allowing you to observe which technique provides better performance.
Contextual Link Building Is An Unparalleled Link Building Strategy

The online market is full of intense competition and in order to for any website to become profitable it needs to consistently secure a high position on search engine results pages. Climbing up the search engine pages helps you to reach out to your target market. One of the most effective SEO strategies that you can employ is contextual link building.
Why link building has changed
Link building has become an extremely popular search engine optimization technique ever since it was discovered that Google’s PageRank algorithm counted the number of in bound links to determine a site’s popularity. This discovery also bred some negative results as link building services mushroomed.
Some webmasters made use of link farms that consisted of entire pages with only one way links to their website. Soon enough Google amended its PageRank system to detect such underhand link building practices in the world of internet marketing. It wasn’t all about numbers with the new and improved Google PageRank. Rather the source from where these in bound links were coming was also taken into consideration in order to determine a website’s popularity.
Method to the madness of contextual link building
Under this technique you place one way links in the body of the text which is posted on a site that is topically or contextually related to your website. Blogs and ezine pages along with shopping sites are the most popular places for conducting contextual link building. In order to have your post up on another website you need to seek the owner’s permission and maybe even ask them to create a relevant page if one does not exist already.
Why Contextual Link Building Works Better
There are a number of reasons that contribute to making contextual link building the number one link building strategy. First of all it is by far the most ethical tactic you will be able to employ. Employing ethical techniques is important as it removes the risk of being penalized or banned by the search engines.
Contextual link building also increases the chances of making conversions as you will be driving completely targeted traffic to your website. The blog review that you post up on various sites acts as a preliminary sales talk for your products and services. If the reader clicks on the link it means he is already convinced to a certain extent and you have a small job left to do.
This comprehensive link building strategy helps you to increase your search engine rankings due to the increased volume of one way links. This obviously increases the chances of your site being visited by people that make use of those search engines.
Your blog review performs a triple function of giving your readers valuable information while promoting your business and containing a back link to your website. Hence we find that contextual link building can really boost your link popularity thereby helping you to become a profitable business on the internet in these economically testing times.
The Importance of Creating Backlinks

Those in the Internet business, especially those in Search Engine Optimization, are very familiar with backlinks. Also known as inbound or inward links, backlinks are the incoming links to your website. They are links in other websites that direct readers to your site. Backlinks reveal how popular or important your website it, thus, they are very important.
One particular reason why backlinks are important is the way they are used by search engines. Search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN use backlinks to determine just how important a website is. They use backlinks, among other factors, to assess if a website is relevant enough to appear in the page results of a particular search inquiry. The more backlinks you have, the better the chances that Google of Yahoo will consider your website relevant. It follows then that the more backlinks you have, the more visitors you will get.
Once you become aware how important backlinks are, it is time to focus on creating them. This is very easy. One way to do this is to leave your link when you comment on blogs. Of course, it is not enough to comment on just any blog. Choose blogs with content that is remotely related to the content of your website. This way, you are building quality backlinks. Another way to create backlinks is to post links together with your signature when you comment on forums. Submitting your URL to directories is another great way to create backlinks.
Creating backlinks may seem like an exhausting part of managing your website but it will be worth it. Backlinks determine your website’s popularity and this is something any webmaster should focus on.
Directory Submission Strategy Basics for Search Engine Optimisation

Directory submission is not an afterthought. Submitting your website to reputable and relevant directories will provide your website with links, looks and leads if you take the time to develop an effective directory submission strategy. Directory submission strategies are developed during the process of search engine optimisation and search engine marketing. Directories provide links, looks and leads. The link to your website that is submitted to the directory for submission builds up your back links which builds up your search engine reputation. Search engines also look for directory submissions when evaluating websites for their search engine results page. The original purpose of online directories was to provide a valuable link for users to follow when researching information. Providing a link to your website for this native purpose can provide you with valuable leads for future customers. There are thousands of directories. Many are beneficial to your website, however just as many can be detrimental to your website. The process of directory submission also provides an avenue for locating websites that have content related to yours, providing a valuable resource for link building and competitor analysis. Developing a directory submission strategy requires determining the most advantageous methods for search engine results and search engine marketing, as well as a cost and return analysis of your search engine budgeting. Unfortunately, it’s not a simple task to put a monetary value on link building, search engine exposure and customer leads since there are so many variables, both tangible and intangible. A directory may charge a fee for your submission, or it may charge a recurring fee. There are many directories that do not charge for submission, however close scrutiny to the directory’s reputation is imperative to avoid being penalized by the major search engines. Budget decisions must be taken into consideration when developing your directory submission strategy. Registering your directory with the primary and most reputable directories is beneficial to search engine results, although this may get costly depending on which directories you choose to submit to. Knowing your target market and having a well-developed customer profile can help you hone in on the directories that are most likely to give your website visibility and reach the customers that are most like to buy your product or service – or complete your call to action. Thus, you will be spending less money, but reaching customers that are most likely to commit, making the directory submission process more efficient. Directory submissions are not limited to search engine directories. Directories range from industry directories, academic directories, phone directories, business directories, government directories, resource directories, medical directories, and of course, restaurant directories, travel directories, and regional directories. Finding the directories most suitable for your niche and directory submission strategy will strengthen your search engine reputation as well as your website visibility to visitors most likely to be attracted to your website. A Directory submission strategy is not the most important aspect of search engine optimisation or search engine marketing, but it should not be neglected if you are seeking to optimize every avenue of opportunity for search engine recognition and website visibility. A directory submission will bring you links to increase your page rank, looks to increase the probability of being included in search engine results, increased traffic, leads for new customers, link building and competitive analysis. Don’t underestimate the value of developing a directory submission strategy, or your website will be underestimated in search engine results – and overlooked by potentially valuable visitors. Submit your URL to directories to surpass your competitors that aren’t using directory submission – and your website visitors will be submitting to you.

One of the important tools of web promotion is link popularity. Link popularity refers to the popularity of your website which otherwise depends on the number of websites joining your website. To improve or to provide your website with top search engine ranking, search engine optimization is required. Link buildings play a very important role in search engine algorithm or in other words search engine ranking formulae. Link building may be defined as a process of getting links to your site from different other sites. Link building not just improves your sites search engine ranking, but it also enhances the traffic volume to your site as well as site popularity.
Different Types of Link Building
•   RECIPROCAL LINKS: Are the sites which link to your site & in return your site links back to that site. In other words there is exchange of links. Although these links are not as effective as the back links but still they are important because they are permanent as well as cost effective.
•   INBOUND OR BACKLINKS: Are those which are one way i.e. links from other sites link to your site but in return your site does not link back. These links are any time more valuable & effective than the reciprocal links.Â
•   THREE WAYS LINK BUILDING: Is a tedious and a time consuming process with three domain names which would get one way link with each other.
Link Building Strategies / Techniques
•   Link building directories: By submitting in free link directories which have high page rank & high quality you could start the process of link building.
•   Outsourcing: Outsourcing your link with trustworthy services & individuals might be an expensive process but this would provide you with quality links instead of receiving low quality links at low price, which might otherwise harm your website.
•   Article writing: It is one of the most effective methods of link building. A relevant and an informative article is what visitors actually look for .This increases your sites popularity. The content rich in keywords have high keyword density, another factor required for link building.Â
•   Link building is a very crucial part of search engine optimization. It is not an easy task & requires a c-class IP address and an appropriate anchor text for submission to high quality directories. Apart from the quantity, quality factor needs to be kept in mind. It is an art and requires the assistance of a professional SEO.
